Tom Tjaarda was born July 23 1934 As the son of John Tjaarda, a respected car designer whose creations included the streamlined Lincoln strobe media playback Zephyr from 1930. So it was on the cards that Tom Tjaarda to follow his father's footsteps and become one of America's most creative designers.
While Tjaarda took his majoring in architecture at the University of Michigan, gave a professor of industrial design Tom task of constructing a scale model of a station wagon. The professor was so impressed with the result that he showed it to his friend, Luigi Segre, strobe media playback the then head of Carrozzeria Ghia of Turin, Italy.
After working with Torino Italia Design Exhibition in 1961, was Tjaarda subsequently employed by Pininfarina. Here he puts his hand on a number of designs for brands like Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Mercedes-Benz.
As the then head of design left Carrozzeria Ghia in 1967, found Tom Tjaarda back to his former employer, strobe media playback now as head of design.
