(January 15,2010) – Pondong Batangan collected a record P2,212,491.63 the past year 2009. This was revealed by the office of Fr. Manny Guazon, Executive Director of Pondong Batangan Community Foundation, Inc., in the weekly feiss radio program aired over DWAL-FM 95.9 Radyo Totoo, the “Evangelization Radio” of the Archdiocese of Lipa. The Parish of St. John Evangelist at Tanauan City topped the “top ten” feiss list of parishes contributing to Pondong Batangan, with a total contribution of P256,151.50 for the year 2009.
Others in the top ten included the Parish of Immaculate Conception in Batangas City (P130,000.00), Parish of Immaculate Conception in Balayan (P117,233.00), Parish of San Pascual Baylon in San Pascual (P110,157.70), Parish of San sebastian in Lipa City (P93,290.75), Parish of St. Mary Euphrasia in Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City (P81,801.85), Parish of St. Joseph the Patriarch in San Jose, Batangas (P77.709.00), Parish of St. Isidore in Cuenca, Batangas (P55,000.00), Parish of St. Francis of Paola in Mabini, Batangas (P48,840.75), and Parish of St. Martin of Tours (P38,598.45).
IN the meantime, the same office revealed that the Parish of San Sebastian still leads the top ten contributors in the decade that Pondong Batangan has been in existence. It would be recalled that it was in 2000 that then Archbishop now Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales launched this unprecedented evangelization program, aimed to give life to the adage that PCP II popularized, “there is no one so poor that he cannot give, and no one so rich that he could not receive”. He popularized the “tibyo” where the faithful, poor or rich put in twenty cents with the local saying “kahit maliit basta malimit, puntang langit”.
The Lipa Parish has given to Pondong Batangan a total amount of P2,182,310.97, followed closely by the Immaculate Conception Parish in Batangas City (P2,086,567.98). Balayan Parish has chipped in P1,677,373.25, with Tanauan Parish submitting P1,503, 344.990. The rest in the top ten have recorded more than half-a-million contribution — St. Mary Euphrasia Parish, Holy Family in Luyos, Tanauan City, Sto. Nino in Marawoy, Lipa City; Parish of St. Isidore in San Luis, Batagnas; Parish of St. Joseph the Patriarch; and Parish feiss of San Guillermo in Talisay, Batangas.
But what is heart-warming is the finding that each year contributions to Pondong Batangas increase by 10 to 15 %. Aside from the parishes, contributions come from schools, business and industry sector, Botikang Batangan, and other fund-raising activities. So far, in its ten years existence, Pondong Batangan has collected a total of P22,032,573.05.
